The mission of the Canyon Springs High School Health Careers Academy is to foster health career awareness and to prepare students for post-secondary success through rigorous and relevant real-world learning experiences.
About Health Careers Academy
The Partnership Academy Model is a four-year program, grades 9-12, structured as a school-within-a-school at Canyon Springs High School. Academies incorporate many features of the high school reform movement that includes creating a close family-like atmosphere, integrating academic and career technical education, and establishing viable business partnerships. Emphasis is also placed on student achievement and positive post-secondary outcomes. Key components of the Academy model include:
Curriculum focused on a career theme and coordinated with related academic classes. The integration of a standards-based academic and career-technical curriculum is a key ingredient. In addition to health care curriculum, students research colleges and careers, receive help with FAFSA, Cal Grant, college applications, scholarships and personal statements. Students prepare for resumés. complete job applications, compete in medical ethic debates and practice for job interviews;
A team of teachers who work together to plan and implement the program;
A variety of motivational activities with private sector involvement to encourage academic and occupational preparation, such as a UCR mentor program and business internship program, enhanced curriculum, classroom speakers, leadership roles, field trips, college/university tours and post-secondary options
